India Design Council
Further to the announcement of the National Design Policy by the Government of India in February 2007, the India Design Council is now formulated.
With Shri Anand Mahindra, well known industrialist, as President and Shri Pradyumna Vyas as the Member-Secretary the India Design Council comprises of eminent personalities from various walks of life. The mandate of this council, amongst others, will be to work for the upliftment of design in the country.
The First Meeting of the India Design Council was held on the 18th June 2009 and based on the discussions; following work groups were initiated.
a) Role of Design Council as a Regulatory body for accreditation of Design Education. It would comprise:
- Shri Akhil Succena, Activity Chair Person, Education, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad
- Shri Ravi Pooviah, IDC, IIT, Mumbai
- Shri Ganesh Prabhu, IIM, Banglore
- Two members from Industry viz, Shri Jagdish Hinduja, Chairman, Gokuldas Images Ltd, Bangalore and
- Shri Shrikant Nivsarkar, President, IFI (Invitee)
b) Study of standards for India Design Mark. It would comprise:
- Dr. Naushad Forbes, Forbes Marshall, Mumbai
- Shri Mahesh Krovvidi, COO-National Design Business Incubator, NID, Ahmedabad
- Shri Sudhir Sharma, Designer, Pune (Invitee)
- Ms. Preeti Vyas Giannetti, Vyas Giannetti Creative, Mumbai (Invitee)
- Shri S. Sundar, President, Association of Industrial Designers of India, Bangalore (Invitee)
- Shri Sumeet Nair, MD, Incube Fashion, Gurgaon.
c) To study and recommend the tax benefits/incentive for Design Investment in industry, research organizations & institutions. The team would comprise:
- Shri Ajai Choudhary, Chairman & CEO, HCL Info Systems, Noida
- Shri Anjan Das, Senior Director, CII, Gurgoan
- Shri Mahesh Krovvidi, COO-National Design Business Incubator, NID, Ahmedabad
- Shri Bidyabijay Bhaumik, VP-Scorpio Project, M&M, Mumbai
- Shri Satish Gokhale, Design Directions, Pune (Invitee)
- Dr. Vaijayanti Pandit, Director, FICCI Western Region Council, Mumbai
