Designing for Museums
This seminar is the first in a series that will investigate the role and relevance of museums in contemporary Indian society and their accountability. It will attempt to expose students to the latest thinking in the field of museum exhibition design. The speakers are museum professionals and academicians who will address issues of learning, access and interpretation in museums. As the government seems to recognize the fundamental role that design can play in creating access and promoting learning opportunities, it is up to the community of exhibition designers, curators and other museum professionals to react and take up this challenge.

Edge Of Faith - Photographs by Prabuddha Dasgupta
Located on the west coast of India along the Arabian Sea, Goa officially became an Indian state in 1987 after nearly 500 years of Portuguese rule. This conflict of cultures is captured by Indian photographer Prabuddha Dasgupta in "The Edge of Faith." The striking photographs create an intimate portrait of the Catholic community in Goa rarely seen before--a portrait of people torn between their fidelity to a history of Portuguese faith and culture and their post-Independence Indian identity. In addition, acclaimed travel-writer William Dalrymple provides an accompanying text that explores both the history of Goa's Catholic past and its struggle to deal with its multi-cultural, multi-religious present. "The Edge of Faith" captures Catholic Goa in a haunting, but beautiful impasse--caught in a time warp between comforting nostalgia and a doubt-ridden, insecure future.
Look Back Look Forward
The Conference aims to provide an opportunity to the delegates to draw inspiration from the path breaking work at UIm & reflect on the path forward for Design Education. The key note speakers will set the platform for delegates to reflect on various threads of influences of the pedagogy of Hfg UIm, its spread of key messages across design subjects. Round table discussions and debates enable the participants to draw the contours of the future of design education.
