36th Convocation, 2016
National Institute of Design celebrated its 36th Convocation Day on Monday, 18 January 2016 at NID, Ahmedabad.
Shri Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) – Government of India; author of “Branding India – An Incredible Story”, and a key driver of the “Incredible India”, “God’s Own Country” and “Make in India” initiatives, who had kindly consented to be the Chief Guest, delivered the Convocation address.
This year in total 304 students graduated from various disciplines: 106 students from the 4 year Bachelor of Design; 182 students from the 2½ year Master of Design; 14 from the 4-year Graduate Diploma Programme in Design; 1 from the 2½ year Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design; 1 from the 2 year Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design.On this occasion, following events too are being held:
- Like each year, ‘Young Designers – Graduate Show 2016’, an exhibition of the works of the graduating students will be displayed across the campus.
- A display of recently concluded ‘Design for Railway - International Open Electives’, has been organised at the Design Gallery.
- Additional display of students’ works and outcome of ‘Design for Railway - International Open Electives’, has been organised at NID PG Campus.
These exhibitions will remain open for public viewing from 19-23 January, 2016 between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm at the resp. campuses.
Apart from the above-mentioned exhibition, ‘NID's Bamboo Story: design for development’ has been displayed in the Design Panorama. This exhibition attempts to show how craft documentation methodologies developed at the NID were applied to the study of Bamboo beginning in the 1970s and eventually experimentation with models for sustainable development.
This display will remain open for public viewing from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) between 9.00 am and 6.00 pm. for next few months.
