Symposium 21st - 22nd February 2020
Exhibition 21st February - 2nd March 2020

The Textile Design Department is one of the foremost disciplines established at National Institute of Design. Set-up through the vision of Gira Sarabhai with Nelly Sethna and Helena Perheentupa shaped the pedagogy and the tenor of the discipline. In its more than five decades of existence the department has sent forth more than five hundred alumni, who have impacted and shaped the course of textiles in the larger country. The department is celebrating these years of its inception with an event to revisit the beginnings of this adventurous journey. The exercise will also allow the textile department to set goalposts for future and build new connections, through interaction and discourses in these planned events.

The event will connect with many hundreds of its textile design alumni while offering a platform for dialogue between the ever-evolving textile design practice and academia. Textile alumni have through the years nurtured and sustained the future generations of textile designers and this has contributed to the robustness of textile practice and pedagogy. Through the event, the fraternity will gain through the wealth of cumulative experiences; and augment textile design abilities and sensibilities.
