Top Awards at MIFF 2006 for NID Film & Video and
Animation Student Films !

HITESH KEWALYA , a NID Film & Video student, has won the BEST FICTION FILM (Upto 75 Mins / National Competition) AWARD (he gets the GOLDEN CONCH and a CASH PRIZE of Rs.1,50,000/-) for his NID Diploma film "Nothing Happens On This Turn / Is Modh Par Kuch Nahin Hota" at the 9th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for Documentary, Short & Animation films (organised by Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India), between 3-9 Feb, 2006.

The Jury said about Hitesh's film - for its refreshing and youthful style of narrating routine events in our life. While taking a dig at the state of Reality TV shows in India today, it is also an experiment in the scripting of parallel narratives.

Another NID Film & Video student AMIT SHAH jointly shared with another documentary film the NATIONAL JURY AWARD for his NID Diploma film ‘HOON' . He gets a CASH PRIZE of Rs.50,000/-.

The Jury said about Amit's film - for the way in front of the camera's eye, the metamorphosis of women is captured.  Women who had been silent and submissive perhaps for the first time openly question their roles in relation to men. As the film unfolds, we see that the director whilst developing the story, helped in changing deep rooted traditional notions, both of the subject and perhaps also of the audience - a significant achievement in the digital medium with a mere 45 minutes.

Other NID students receiving Awards at MIFF 2006 include -

a) SECOND BEST ANIMATION FILM (National Competition) / jointly shared by ‘DHARA' directed by GANESH GOTHWAL .
Jury - For its very unique technique of Origami to communicate a simple story well told.  The circular plot completes the narrative and leaves the audience happy

SWOOSH' directed by RANVEER SINGH SAHMBI .
Jury - The films stylized backgrounds and visualizations are a treat.  The use of humour in storytelling and a strong punch line in the end is a ‘cut' above the rest!

Ganesh And Ranveer get the CASH PRIZE of Rs.37,500/- each and SILVER CONCH

b) SECOND BEST ANIMATION FILM (International Competition)
(jointly shared with another non-NID animation film)

BOOND' directed by KAVITA SINGH
Jury - for it's touching memorial to a lost friend.

Kavita gets the CASH PRIZE of Rs. 50,000/- and SILVER CONCH.
