This unique document is the result of a request from the Government of India to the authors to recommend a programme of training in the areas of design which would serve as an aid to small industries and that would resist the rapid deterioration of consumer goods within the country. They recommended an institute of design, research and service which would also be an advanced training medium - this was the genesis of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
