Paritosh Sen is one of India's leading painters and a writer of distinction. A Tree in my Village is a short piece from Zindabahar, a volume of reminiscences in Bengali first published by him in 1979. It recounts the story of a gigantic Arjuna tree in his native village, now in Bangladesh, and of the birds and other animals that had made it their home. The calligraphy and the numerous drawings in this elegant facsimile edition printed on parchment and preserved in a neat portfolio, are by Paritosh Sen.
