This survey of the textile & bamboo crafts of the northeastern region of India, comprising seven states, was undertaken by the National Institute of Design at the suggestion of the Ministry of Industry, Government of India, with the active support of the industries departments there, and of the Northeastern Council. These crafts demonstrate very clearly how the local people have exercised their ingenuity, using these natural materials to create a variety of devices, tools, households objects, fabrics and even bridges. The study reveals the close nexus between the economic and cultural life of the region. The book is elaborately illustrated with 88 B & W and 81 colour plates.
