The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, has set up an active publications programme to spread the use of design in all sectors of the Indian economy. NID publications consist of primarily of academic books that aspire to make a strong contribution to scholarship in all fields of design. This publications programme makes available pedagogical material hitherto unpublished. These publications are the outcome of craft documentations, course documentations, teaching, research and professional work of over 43 years. Hundreds of such studies, both large and small, have been conducted over the years, each leaving its impress in a document archived in the library. This documentation, apart from serving the purpose of a reference/study material for those interested, will also help in product development in the selected craft area. A fair number of these have been published by NID. Some of them have formed the basis of important publications like Of Fibre & Loom: The Indian Tradition by Dr Lotika Varadarajan and Krishna Amin-Patel (forthcoming 2004).
Currently there are 30 titles available on sale at NID and through this website.
