Design Vision Centre

Vision behind the setting up of the DESIGN VISION CENTRE (DVC) at NID is to empower design professionals to visualise and realise faster and better in real life environments, to make design solutions user friendly with high success rate in the market. The DVC envisaged as a world class design facility supported by DIPP, DST and ICICI Bank, aims to bring the synergy of technology and design for developing cutting edge design innovations to establish India as a design leader. The DVC is a cutting edge design support facility for education, research and consultancy services with three hi-tech labs.

High Performance Visualisation Lab (HPV Lab) equipped with Silicon Graphic Systems (SGI) Onyx 350 Super Computer brings highest realism and performance through advanced visualisation technologies. It provides real time immersive experience to the viewers. The system is versatile enough to cover a large spectrum of visualisation of products, services and experiences. Comprehensive 'virtual prototyping' is possible using this facility by design students, design professionals, industries and researchers.

Rapid Product Development Lab (RPD Lab) has physical prototyping facilities including Rapid Prototyping (RP) machine from Z-Corporation USA . The RP machine prints the computer images in 3D form using special powder and liquid. These images are constructed in 3D as a physical prototype on which various finishes, colours and textures can be applied for eliciting real life response from users.

Mind to Market Lab (MTM Lab) facilitates industry and user-centric research cells with advanced computer workstations having FreeForm Concept System software and the PHANTOM Omni-interface hardware device for creating virtual objects. This technology is from SensAble Technologies, Inc. USA . The facility of Plasma Screens makes development of 'virtual objects' a delightful experience.

The DVC is a strategic step in the direction of making India a 'Design Hub of Asia'.
