Facilities

Auditorium
NID has an auditorium with a seating capacity of about 175, with facilities for screening wide screen, 35mm and 16mm films, as well as multi-projection of slide shows with computer programming. Attached to it are audio-visual studios which are well-equipped for quality audio-visual recording and editing, and mixing.

Residential Facilities
As the accommodation on the campus is not sufficient, provision of hostel accommodation to outstation students in various programmes is presently restricted as follows:

  • All students in the GDPD  : 7 Semesters
  • All girls in PGDPD             : 3 to 4 Semesters
  • All boys in PGDPD            : 2 Semesters.

Both at Gandhinagar and Bangalore the facilities are outsourced and therefore the hostel charges will be based on actual cost of hiring accommodation and other related expenses. The student at Gandhinagar and Bangalore may also make their own arrangements for stay and the programmes are non-residential.

Students residing in the NID hostel must observe its rules and regulations. Admission is on yearly basis. Subscriptions to Mess facilities are compulsory for all hostel residents. These charges must be paid in full at the beginning of every semester.

Recreation Room
There is a large recreation room with television set and facilities for indoor games like table-tennis, caroms, etc. The area also houses a light reading library room by students and darkroom facilities for use by the members of the students photo club. Recreational activities are not restricted to those directly arranged by the Students Activity Council. Students who wish to engage in some activity for collective entertainment or for participation by the community, are given a free hand to do so, and SAC funds are made available for this purpose.

Canteen
Catering Facilities in the residential area is supplemented by the canteen which functions in the academic block. This canteen serves snacks, tea/coffee and cold drinks.

Medical Facilities
The NID doctors (including one Lady Doctor) visits the campus clinic everyday and can be consulted in the consultation room in the campus. NID does not have hospitalisation or isolation facilities available on the campus. Arrangements may be made for hospitalisation at Government hospitals in Ahmedabad for any resident student for whom this is recommended by the Institute’s doctor. NID health facilities are limited to the campus doctor and dispensary. The basic responsibility for good health is in the hands of individual students, and the facilities are to supplement individual efforts and are not a substitute for them. Medical expenses have to be borne by the students. The students are required to take individual medical insurance from a reputed company and inform NID the details thereof at the time of admission. It is mandatory for the students to join, at their own cost, the personal Accident Insurance Scheme as may be approved from time to time by the Institute. All students are required to give the name and address of their local guardian in Ahmedabad so that NID authorities may get in touch with them if the student happens to fall sick, or in any other emergency.

Students' Store
The institute operates a Student Store on the campus. The store sells different kind of paper and other stationery items which are frequently used by students.
