Faculty Development Center

Preamble
The National Institute of Design (NID) is an internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary institution in the field of design education and applied research. NID’s Forward Plan 2007-2012 envisions setting up of a dedicated Faculty Development Centre (FDC) for addressing the challenges of research-led higher education including the need for new curriculum development and approach to pedagogy of design education at both Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels.

Vision
Faculty Development Centre aims for induction, training and continuous upgradation and motivation of faculty and other key human resources to face the changing paradigms and challenges of Design Education in the 21st Century.

Mission

  • To motivate faculty members for upgrading their existing skills of learning and imparting knowledge and opening up new avenues and challenges to the students.
  • To contribute to the advancement of activities as envisioned in NID’s Forward Plan 2007-2012.
  • To establish network with other institutes offering Faculty Development Programmes in India and universities abroad.
  • To encourage faculty members to participate in conferences, seminars, and design related national and international events.
  • To support faculty in taking forward NID’s Global Leadership Position in Design Education and Practice in line with action plans envisaged in the National Design Policy approved by the Union Cabinet in February 2007.
  • To provide structured training to new recruits under the Faculty Development Programme.
  • To facilitate human resource requirements including faculty and technical staff for all three campuses of NID viz. at Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Gandhinagar.
  • To act as testing lab for ‘Autodesk NID Chair for Design Education Innovation’.
  • To consider requests from other organizations including design schools and colleges in India for training of their faculty members and teachers at FDC at NID.

Methodology

  • Establish infrastructure facilities including e-learning tools for the activities of FDC at NID.
  • Plan various activities, training programs, webcasts, teleconference schedules etc and disseminate to the people concerend. 
  • Involve internal subject experts to participate in imparting training to recently inducted FDP candidates.
  • Invite external experts from academic fields to conduct short term workshops / training programmes for identified faculty members.
  • Facilitate a participation in short term faculty development modules offered by universities overseas.
  • Enlist positive and proactive contribution and cooperation from faculty members and technical staff for the activities of FDC.
