DC Design thrives on giving expression to people’s desires manifested in the form of customised vehicles for their specific needs, which OEMs cannot provide. The project brief was to design and create a unique vehicle ‘Home on Wheels’ for a client who intended to use it for holiday outings with his family.
My role as a designer was proactive right from initial meetings with the client to the execution of the desired product in the workshop providing the necessary communication channel between the client and the company. It was challenging to understand and interpret the indefinite ideas and desires of the client and come up with satisfactory design solutions that yet fit in the business model and system of the company.
The initial meetings with the client helped synthesise the starting points of the vehicle concerning the size and capacity of the vehicle, base chassis from the OEM for making the body, electronic gadgets, facilities, air conditioning etc., budget and the probable design directions. For this project, the vehicle was essentially a custom built bus with homelike interiors. The interior space was divided into a lounge room, bedroom with a bar, and a private washroom designed to give a discernible sense of luxury and comfort of the home.
During this unique project not only did I grow as a designer, but I could also see, understand and learn other aspects of the project related to business, management and execution. |
