My First Renault

My First Renault

I was to deal only with the interiors of this hypothetical car, which laid stress on the understanding of the role of a car interior space and its relationship with the user (me).
Drilled into my head, right from the beginning was the thought: “a designer’s job is to ideate and keep rolling out ideas with a strong conviction to support them.” But, a designer must have the capability to envision what may happen, and this could, later, be validated by an engineer.

I had seen high quality of work in all the past ‘My First Renault’ projects done by design students around the world which made me try and get the best out of myself. As this was my first attempt at automotive interiors, there was a lot for me to assimilate. But my final mood board reflected a strong understanding of the Indian context and environment. This, truly, was ‘My First Renault.’

I learnt that there must be a balance between functionality and form against emotion for a user to connect to. My understanding of the context and environment through my unconscious observations, analysis, research and process proved to be far more insightful than books. The project was an action-packed journey of immense learning that forced me to question some of my preset notions and to understand the power of dreams, emotions and self conviction. These ideas mixed with a good dose of professionalism and deliverables expected from me made this project a truly unforgettable experience.
