MTB for Girls

MTB for Girls

With changes in lifestyles and trends, girls today need products which are customised to their needs. The project aimed at developing MTB for teenage girls portraying a pronounced image and versatility of this niche user segment. The project began from the stage of defining my own brief based on my understanding of the bicycle, the different segments and the industry set up. Thus, making it a wholesome project and giving enough creative freedom within a specified large boundary.

Beginning with understanding the users in their cultural, social and behavioural aspects, concepts of the bike were taken forward. These factors which varied from state to state and from generation to generation, sometimes posed as triggers and sometimes as challenges, influencing the design of the bike. The project underwent variations at different stages of development from paper to prototyping, keeping in view users’ requirements, along with inventory, manufacturing and technological aspects of the industry.

Since a bicycle is a product where every detail is exposed to the eye, the designing of the bike pertained to styling, but also allowed me to design every detail to enhance the character of the bike, even when the product was being prototyped. Challenges came forth again when the product was brought live from paper into the prototyping phase. It is when the prototype is standing and being tested by users that one realises the in-depth learning one has gone through in this whole cycle.
