My project revolved around constructing a ‘Product Road Map’ which showcased new viable ideas which the company could use in its forth-coming Product Development plan.
The idea was to delve deep into the current lifestyle, culture, beliefs, aspirations of the Indian consumer, derive relevant need areas and subsequently innovate on the same.
My starting point was to understand what these three words – HEALTH- HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY meant to the Indian consumer and what he/she associated them with. Eventually, I narrowed down my choice of product to Home Theaters. My sponsor was keen on this product because of the scope for insight-based concept generation and the development of a new user group.
The next stage involved collecting information about the product area and studying existing market trends, competitors and technology. After attaining a basic understanding of how the home theater functions, I administered a survey at understanding the daily usage of home theaters and how users interacted with it in their space.
The insights derived were statistically analyzed and recorded. The more promising insights were taken forward for concept generation. I developed two concepts which combined practicality, innovation and user needs. 1. The Picasso Concept (a floor standing home theater) and 2. The Verve Concept (a flat detachable speaker system).
Working in a corporate house has provided professional sheen to my design education. I acquired skills in relationship building and adapting to different work styles. Collaboration with other designers has been an invaluable component in my creative and learning process. As a designer, working on futuristic designs broadened my horizons. |
