For my project, I designed a prototype of an application, a miniature golf game, that displays a blend of computer vision, steerable display and an intelligent agent.
The application presents a technique that endows the system with the ability to control the location of the display of a projector within a specific area called ’the Zone,’ on the basis of events dictated by user moments, which are detected through cameras. By doing this, the implementation and execution of applications that require movement of virtual objects projected by the display controlled by motion detection is greatly simplified. Other features include a method to detect the feet location inside the zone and its mapping to real world coordinates for further use with the steerable projection. I have also used visual and sonic representation of the actions based on the events detected by the feet tracking.
User testing revealed that players appreciated a new way of playing golf without having to go to a physical golf course, thereby saving time while preserving the leisure experience.
The application may also be used both in ubiquitous interactive installations at public places as well as gaming for an overall immersive experience.
It is also possible to use this platform for modeling social interactions and cooperation of multiple agents in 3 D environment. The system’s main benefit lies in the intelligent agent that perceives the environment and accordingly makes decisions to control the movement of the steerable display projections.
My project has endowed me with a futuristic vision about computer vision and projection technologies. |
