My project involved developing designs for a floral curtain collection in silk jacquards for high end customers of the European and American market for exclusive showrooms catering to interior markets. It involved intense research and artwork creation on floral motifs to be woven into curtain fabrics and to contemporize the floral motifs so that they accentuate and contemplate the existing designs.
The broad aim was to create new innovative designs that would appeal to the international market. All designs were created with contemporary edge that had a minimalist and sophisticated approach. I designed nine collections of home furnishings as well as eight collections of garment fabrics for different editors. Each was unique depending on the kind of yarn and the effect they were looking for.
My project was a holistic experience that encompassed research, market and trend studies; creating theme boards; building color stories for the entire collection; design development and the exploration of different surface concepts; converting the concepts into art work subsequently converting the art work into fabrics.
The company gave me freedom to experiment by adding silk. At every stage I learned something new in terms of working with different levels of people, working on different fabrics, and making adjustments to suit the broad range of stakeholders.
The pre-planning required for each and every fabric in terms of discussions and explanations of technicalities gave me my first real-world exposure to technical constraints within Jacquard.
It gave me immense to see my artwork converted into fabric by putting weaves according to the color into the artwork. |
