The Woman who Wanted to Fly

The Woman who Wanted to Fly

In this project, I explored animation film making with children, audience as well as participants to explore how animation film design impacts children’s perception about this medium of communication and to show what relationship it shares with the values and the philosophy of life of the space from where the stories have come.

The process of animation film design demands collaboration and team work at all stages of development. It also provides lots of opportunities to explore, reflect, relate, express, understand, innovate, observe, empathize, think, elaborate, appreciate, tolerate and communicate. It lets children explore their creativity, release the imagination, look underneath the surface realities, realise the problems, understand emotional and social relationships and find meaning and purpose.

In brief, when the energy, enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity of children is provided the playground of animation film design which is full of freedom, of exploration, collaboration, reflection, creation and expression, it leads to a great amount of learning. This learning contributes not only towards academic success of children but also towards achievement and fulfilment in life.

Working with children in a space representing an altogether different culture, language, lifestyle and philosophy of life was a great learning experience for me. I not only got an opportunity to learn to write and animate better, but also the participating kids gave me a great opportunity to understand the relationship between the space, culture and societal values.
