The task at Good Earth was to come up with intelligent and cost effective ideas for the retail space of the store in order to make it look more realistic and inviting.
The furniture was displayed in clusters of bed settings, sofa sitting, dining table and chairs etc. Hence, to give each cluster a different look and identity, the retail space needed to be divided, without blocking the visual clarity of the space. I divided the space in two ways –visually, (by lighting design) and physically, by designing space dividers. pace dividers would help focus on each cluster, give an enclosed feel to the space, and make the cluster more cosy and warm. I also refined the retail space in such a way that it created mystery and curiosity on revealing each cluster displayed as one moved ahead.
The processes involved were: knowing the brand and its image; understanding the retail space and the product line, style of displays; case-studies of similar format stores, and SWOT analysis; research on customer behaviour in the store; developing concepts, story building, model making, explorations, mock-ups, and prototype making.
This project gave me the opportunity to work in the area of retail design, lighting design and visual merchandising which will be my main area of interest in my upcoming career. |
