My project brief was to design and standardise packaging for private label of Home Stop and to design and standardise the planogram of the store.
I liaised with the business team to ensure I was carrying forward brand values and incorporating them in my design. I developed new product packaging designs; determined the company’s planogram and packaging problems; ensured the packaging or planogram was designed efficiently and compared favourably with competitor’s designs. I developed adequate drawings and specifications for the proper manufacturing of the packaging and execution of the planogram; ensured structural packaging engaged the senses; conducted extensive research at the retail shop floor to understand consumer buying patterns to draw insights for concepts in packaging and planogram design; developed a range of structural packaging concepts and prototypes; designed planogram and developed a standard planogram manual.
The project was to support the performance objectives of the new business unit by helping translate the store merchandising vision into optimal store merchandise layouts and visual presentations. The proper execution of planograms ensured quick flow of customers through the store aisles, thus improving sales and product visualization by the customer.
I have understood that significant contribution need not always come from ‘out of box’ thinking, but it can also be achieved by adhering to fundamental design principles. This also helped me tune my academic learning to the demands and requirements of the real world. |
