I redesigned the internal project management tool of Honeywell, India called PRIDE (Process Integrated Development Environment) from a user centric perspective. The tool is quite complex due to huge user base and the number of modules it holds. The goal of the project was to automate the procedure of data collection and generate ability to dynamically represent this data in different required formats.
The project started with a system overview followed by understanding the user needs to an information architecture that was one of the major requirements. After coming up with a robust architecture, it was time to figure out the key users i.e. personas and scenarios. With ample understanding of system (i.e. role players, user needs, task flows) I started preparing some initial designs for the interface of the system and then to final wire frame structure.
I mapped the user requirements finely, and went on right to the final design to come with a sustainable information architecture that could support the application later on. PRIDE being a project management and billing tool, it is used across the organisation widely, so the impact of any alteration was quite high. Due to the huge user base it was a challenging task to work for this application.
During these six months, the major learning was how to work on a well established UI when it’s difficult to convince users about certain alterations. I also realised the importance of following the timeline in such kind of projects. |
