Spots for Aseema

The brief of the project was to make two promotional films for Aseema, aimed at informing audiences about Aseema, its cause and acting as a fund raising tool for the organisation.

At first, I sought to understand promotional videos and how they function within a given context; advertising, and educational systems in India; learning about the work of similar organizations, retrospection on the subject and, thus, a reaction to it. The brief was interpreted within the theme of illumination and light, and metaphors, were used extensively in the films, to add multiplicity in meaning through significant entities, lighting schemes, and spaces.

The nature of tasks varied greatly: from production and logistics, to the analysis of market data, target audience and information; from sound design and editing, to direction; from sets and costumes to the actual execution. As a result, I worked on a host of areas, right from pre-conceptualization to execution.

Learning, especially in terms of experimentation of styles, colour and lighting schemes, camera work, tempo, effects, editing techniques, etc was immense. At the same time, I got a taste of project administration, management and multi tasking effectively, without losing focus of the task of piecing the work together within the given time schedule. This, I now realise, was one of the most significant experiences I ever had; the experience which added immense value over and above the knowledge from my project.
