Alpavirama is comma in Sanskrit - a precious pause reclaimed for reflection and repose. There is something intrinsically special about short films. Short films are like life itself, with multiple colours and nuances, each transient yet forever.

This year, Alpavirama is growing from a Global South festival to an International festival, inviting filmmakers from around the world. The 6th Alpavirama International Youth Film Festival will take place between 7-12 November, 2022 at the National Institute of Design in Paldi, Ahmedabad, India. The festival will retain its youth focus and is happy to announce the F30/30 Competition program, inviting filmmakers under 30 years of age and films under 30 minutes in duration. This year, we are also announcing two fresh programs as part of the festival. The first being Audiophile - a narrative and experimental sound competition for sound artists, musicians, audio-enthusiasts and anyone interested in audio as a medium. We welcome submissions of audio works that push the limits of expression beyond music and radio programs. The second program is the CineBazaar - a marketplace for filmmakers to present their works (in any stage of development) to producers, production houses and streaming platforms. This will facilitate young filmmakers to have their projects funded by producers, learn the economics of the filmmaking process and to pitch their films. We hope to nurture and develop a practice around films and filmmaking that encourages young people to experiment with the audio-visual as a form both in the fiction and non-fiction genres. With the focus on youth, we aim to establish connections between young people from across the world as a way to build solidarity in this post-pandemic world. Since Alpavirama 2020 had a pandemic focus, this was brought on as a natural next step to the festival's program.

We look forward to receiving your works and take a precious pause for a brief amount of time to reflect and repose on our world.
