Jagadish Kumar brings over two decades of experience in art, design education, research, and professional practice to his role as Associate Senior Faculty in Communication Design at the National Institute of Design (NID). He currently serves as Discipline Lead for Graphic Design and Head of NID Printlabs. His multidisciplinary practice spans graphic design, illustration, publication design, and the visual arts, including painting, sculpture, and printmaking.

He holds a postgraduate degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Hyderabad and a bachelor’s degree from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Bengaluru. Beginning his professional journey in 2002, he has received several recognitions, including selection as a national scholar for an artist residency at the PPIF Foundation, Mumbai (2004), and the National Scholarship awarded by the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India (2005). He was also a recipient of the prestigious Inlaks India Foundation Award for Visual Arts in 2007. Prior to joining NID, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati.

At NID, Jagadish has led and contributed to numerous projects under Integrated Design Services (IDS), developing branding systems, packaging solutions, and visual identities for prominent institutions and organizations. His notable projects include identity design initiatives for national and educational institutions, contributing to impactful public and institutional communication systems.

As an educator and mentor, he teaches and guides students across a broad spectrum of subjects including Design Drawing, Visual Fundamentals, Color Perception, Design Methods, Research Methods, Design Thinking, Systems Thinking, and advanced Graphic Design practices. His academic engagement further extends to Color Theory, Color Psychology, Visual Semiotics, Digital Color Systems, Visualization practices, Comics and Graphic Novels, and Children’s Book Illustration, alongside supervision of interdisciplinary design projects.

Alongside his academic commitments, Jagadish maintains an active engagement with contemporary art and design practice, regularly creating and exhibiting his works nationally and internationally. His ongoing exploration of creative and design processes reflects a sustained commitment to innovation, experimentation, and critical inquiry in the field of visual communication.
