Jignesh Khakhar is an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. He led the internationally award winning Master's programme in New Media Design between 2009 to 2024 that engaged in defining discourse and practice on the 'design of technology'; and set-up the Master's programme in Information & Interface Design at NID's Bengaluru campus between 2008 to 2009. Alumni from the New Media Design programme have established first-of-their-kind startups and studios in the country at the intersection of design and technology.

As the former Dean of NID's Gandhinagar campus from 2019 to 2024, and an ex-officio member of NID's Governing Council, Standing Committee and Senate, he has contributed to significant leadership initiatives including designing strategies and policies for organizational change, and overseeing their effective implementation.

In prior roles as Chairperson - Research & Publications, Chair - Knowledge Management Centre, Head - Information Technology and Chair - Space Planning, he has led significant transformative initiatives across the Institute's campuses.

Jignesh obtained his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the Leicester School of Architecture (LSA), De Montfort University in 2001; and Doctoral degree from Welsh School of Architecture (WSA), Cardiff University in 2008. Prior to joining NID he worked as a Teaching Assistant, and subsequently, as a Professional Tutor at the WSA.

His core areas of interest and expertise are in the design of technology, pedagogy, design philosophy and ethics. He has a specific interest and expertise in the generation of ideas and concepts, leading to innovation and invention. The 2nd edition of his 'Pedagogical Pocketbook: a field guide on design' was self-published in 2024. He is currently working on three pocketbooks - Design is Shaping, Design is Setting: a design ethics primer, and Obviosity: functional beauty in design.
