Shafique Afzal is a faculty in Textile Design Discipline and his journey as a designer starts from Varanasi, while doing (BFA) Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Banaras Hindu University, Parallel he worked with leading handloom textile organizations in Varanasi, for export and domestic market. He designed and developed fabrics and surfaces for printed and woven textiles.

Before coming to NID he worked in Outreach project for the Tamil Nadu Textile Cluster in 2006 and developed a range of contemporary designs to be used by hand-loom weavers of Tamil Nadu. After Post Graduation Diploma programme in Textile Design from NID in 2009, he worked almost 7 years in various textile industries including India and abroad. His area of work includes hand weaving, electronic Jacquard and digital printing.

He Joined NID as a Faculty in Textile Design in January, 2017. And he teaches advance weaving, Basic and advance Print Design and surface design for B.Des. and M.Des.
