The main objective of this project was to understand user expectation and systems in an integrated township and propose measures for better working of the same.
The study started with a pilot research which helped gain domain perspective and determine the methodology. I did data collection by studying township proposals and future predictions by experts on the subject, factors specific to the Indian context, and conducted interviews to ascertain the user needs in a planned settlement. These facts were then validated with the help of questionnaires. After identifying key areas of concern, scenarios were prepared to depict how technology can be integrated into day to day life for enhanced comfort, safety and security; and how information and communication needs of the entire user segment can be fulfilled. I also co-ordinated with other teams at Honeywell to help build up scenarios for explaining the use of technology in accordance with the brand offering of the firm.
I got a good introduction to aspects of design research, building a proposal upon it and understanding how planning for varied scenarios can help in devising a proposal for diverse user groups; how to make ideas inclusive and flexible for a broader segment of stakeholders; how urban planning initiatives can benefit from technologies in information technology and automation. Overall, the project helped to gain a perspective on humanising available technological tools to suit specific user needs. |
