A knowledge warehouse is a component of an enterprise’s ‘Knowledge management’ system where knowledge is developed, stored, organised, processed and disseminated in terms of resources, document and people skills. Knowledge warehouses are used in different environments like education, security, justice and medical systems.
My role in the diploma project was that of a designer to design an Intranet portal for the students. I had to design a system, for information delivery to students so that they could use the material for their own learning; a de facto communication platform to discuss assignments, and coursework; for instructors and students to interact with each other about coursework.
Deliverables of the project were: present an information architecture of the proposed system; low fidelity prototype of the system; high fidelity prototype of the system; design the dummy content of the Knowledge Warehouse; full fledged working system (with the help of a developer); redesign of the system based on the user response and system failures.
There are many resemblances in the processes of designing a building or designing a product. The scenario and resource considerations are different. As an experience, I would say that the right information can be taken into consideration only by analysing the performance of the students by a test that actually doesn’t compel the users to answer but adds value to their life and benefits them in their task. |
