Retail is one of the fastest growing industries in India. The industry is set to double in the coming three years. In such a scenario of rapid growth, the preparedness of Indian retailers in terms of operating on scalable processes, implementing appropriate technologies and increasing organisational capabilities will be crucial to success.

The project was an initiative to find possible opportunities for Honeywell to intervene with their technologies in the Indian retail industry. The goal was to look at the Indian need of the industry, if any. The research and study done by me would be used for customised technological retail solutions for the Indian market.

I initiated the project from scratch, researched on the domain, gathered data, organised the same and ideated for new futuristic concepts. I started first, by defining the intention, doing a background research of the industry, conducting activities like field study and contextual enquiries. I collected data through formal and informal meetings and conversations, using questionnaires, following it up with analysis and synthesis of the collected data, and determining workable areas. Group and isolated brainstorming helped to come up with ideas. Chosen ideas were then detailed out and scenarios were created as final deliverables.

I learnt a lot about the retail industry. Interacting with people and getting them to talk to me was quite challenging, especially, when the industry is highly competitive. Handling such a huge area all by myself was something I had never done before.
