The brief for the project was to design an appropriate medium of communication for urban youth in the age group 18-25 years in order to create awareness about festivals, help decipher the Hindu calendar, specifically the Marathi calendar. It would also inform them about cultural practices during festivals that have trickled down through generations and attempt to explain the raison de etre for those practices. The complexity of the subject demanded that the medium would be accessed on a regular basis.

Thus, the challenges were many: to understand and personally acquaint myself with the subject, understand the system of the Hindu way of keeping time, to understand the significance of the celebration of every festival, and to understand its correlation with the calendar. But the real challenge to the graphic designer in me was to analyse the information and package it in a language that would be accepted and followed by a generation that is, by and large, ignorant about the subject.

The learning has been immense at a personal level as I happen to be a part of my own target audience and was as ignorant about the subject as any other individual of my age is. The fact that this has been a self motivated project, has given me the confidence of making independent decisions whether design related or otherwise. I have been able to develop my opinions over a lot of issues that are not restricted to the field of design alone.
