Adolescent Health and Awareness:
A Brief Insight of Graphic Design’s Contribution at the Advocacy Level, Grassroot Level, in Mass Communication
and in Peer to Peer Education

The purpose of this interactive CD-ROM is to initiate or rather excite the potential of people interested in contributing to change in adolescent health and awareness with the use of their graphic design skills.

The four different levels of communication featured are: advocacy, peer to peer education, interpersonal communication and mass communication. In terms of advocacy, it features a select few UNICEF publications designed by Lopez Design.

As for peer to peer education, it features stills from a film by Radhika Kaul Batra titled Sumitra, which documents a peer education camp in Rajasthan. At the level of interpersonal communication, it features a brief insight into Lakshmi Murthy’s project titled, ‘Media Design for Communicating Reproductive Health Information to Rural Young People’. Finally, in terms of mass communication, it features the Balbir Pasha campaign process (HIV/AIDS awareness), which was hugely successful in Mumbai.

This very basic CD-ROM is not a ‘tool kit’, or ‘how to go about contributing to change with graphic design…’ but rather an overview of certain select successful adolescent health and awareness programmes in India where graphics and visuals have played a pivotal part in the communication.
