The project aimed at creating environmental graphics for the sports complex for the Commonwealth Youth Games, Pune 2008. The project dealt with bench marking games of such magnitude, studying their visual language and studying the broad aspects of event branding. What started of as a signage design project, took on larger proportions with time: the tasks ranging from proposing a colour palette, to the service pictogrammes for the sports complex, to proposing a visual language (look) for the sports city, thus bringing about colour and energy to the fields of play- creating an environment that would elevate athletic performance, and also project an uninterrupted visual experience to the athletes, spectators and TV viewers.
By understanding the bigger picture, and paying attention to every detail, I had to make sure that the presentation of every venue was professional, coordinated, memorable and the perfect backdrop for a sporting spectacle.
Working on the project entailed planning of the Games, design, management and the delivery of branding and way finding programmes for such a major event. The biggest learning and, consequently, the biggest challenge was working within constraints and also as a part of a larger team. But the feeling of working on a project of this scale was simply unbelievable. |
