The purpose of this project was to create a complete guide to growing up for adolescents. This book would deal with everything from puberty and emotional changes to love, gender, sex and career planning.

I had to work on text material provided to me which was not only incomplete, but also badly structured. My work included verifying the existing material and restructuring the text to fit in new information, interviewing counsellors, teachers, NGOs who work with adolescents and adolescents themselves, editing and proofreading the collected material, designing the layout and preparing various options, which could be taken forward. These were discussed with the client and shown to various adolescents. After their collective feedback, I chose, amended and finally executed a layout.

To promote healthy growing up, similar aid books need to be made for teachers and parents as well. This will help improve the parent-child relationship and enable adolescents to grow up in a healthy manner. In turn, studies have shown that such an action will bring about a decrease in prejudices and taboos regarding sex, and decrease sex-related crimes as well.

I realised how important face-to-face interaction with and inputs from one’s target audience is: it enriches the project greatly. Since I played various roles from editor to photographer to publication designer in this project, I learnt more about the roles each one plays and how a graphic designer can better communicate with such people.
