I did my diploma project with Weekender, Bangalore. It was a project on designing a line of jeans wear for the age group of 18-25 years for the domestic market. The project was with the garment industry setup in the field of ready to wear market.
The brief given to me was to develop a line of jeans wear collection for Spring/Summer 2007 for both men and women. The pointers were as follows: to do a survey of the various competitive brands and analyse the price points; to do research and to analyse what the young customers buy; to identify best fits according to body types; to do extensive work on washes; to develop a line of jeans wear; to develop and work on the branding aspect in terms of patches, fit indicators, flashers, etc.
I started by doing a market survey of the various competitive brands to understand the existing scenario of the market. Based on the research and analysis through brainstorming, the collection was made according to the theme. It involved designing jeans for men and women and also T shirts for men and women. The branding aspect was also taken care of, in terms of tags, loops, labels, buttons, etc.
The significance of the project was to understand the garment industry, trends, consumer needs and demands. Almost all the designed garments went for production for the Spring-Summer 2007 Collection. The project provided me an opportunity to interact with people from different fields. |
