Payal Enterprise Pvt. Ltd., is known for its variety of Indian wear and kaftans in various fabrics and embroidery techniques. My project was to design clothes that could be worn by any age group, making a fine combination of ethnicity and contemporary designs, which would include salwaar kameez, skirts, kurtis and dress materials. In short, conform to tradition and design clothes.
My major role was to ensure equilibrium between sponsor’s essentials and the design solution. I had to see to the whole process from origin of an idea in mind to bringing it to fruition on paper and refurbishing it with creativity into a garment, taking into consideration various constraints like production processes, infrastructure availability, cost-effectiveness etc.
The project was significant because it enabled learning about hand and machine embroidery; combination of block print, hand embroidery, appliqué, aari work and machine work; designing and sampling a range of fabrics with surface ornamentation.
The project gave me the opportunity to prove my skills, balance strengths and weaknesses, and plan my self strategically keeping in mind many constraints like time, money and the design fundamentals learnt at NID. It gave me a wider view of the practical world in design. I made my mark, working with a team of people, understanding their strengths and respecting their work methodology. I also gained knowledge about different crafts and application of fabric, better use of wastage, strengthened my soft skills and business traits, and understood the importance of teamwork and organisation behaviour. |
