My project brief was to design a bike for rural India. With the increasing demand of motorcycles in rural areas, there is a need for developing a bike catering to the requirements of the rural areas which is no way inferior to urban bikes. With the ever rising social and economical status, the purchase of bikes is not limited to 100 cc bikes; people are looking forward to buying bikes which are more stylish and more powerful
So the project aimed at developing a motorbike suiting to the requirements of rural people keeping in view changing outlook, lifestyles and understanding of marketing trends. The motorcycle would be in synchronisation with the existing standard guide lines.
The processes involved were: interaction with customers in rural areas, studying contemporary trends, analysing future scope for the bike for TVS in the market with competitor brands, making a series of sketches, and concept boards; making scenarios; developing it in 1:1 scale, tape drawing, clay modelling and making the final prototype.
My key role was to analyse and extract keywords and features desired by rural people and deliver them through this new design. But, in the main, it was translating the aspirations of rural customers into a feasible reality. It was exciting and challenging to complete a project in a specified time period under the constraints of the company; I loved the process of visualising a bike in its real scale through the clay model. |
