2DO: The Reminder

2DO: The Reminder

The brief given by Axiom Consulting was to develop a conceptual consumer electronic product that fulfilled an unmet need and benefited a large section of society. Extensive research led me to the multi-tasking Indian career woman of today and her need for a device to help manage time efficiently as she juggles varied responsibilities at the workplace and in the home.

What the working woman of today needs is a modern-day string around the finger. ”2do,” a contextual audio reminder worn around the wrist, has been designed to fill that very need. A thorough study of the psychological and economic needs and behaviour of the user group led me to believe that what the career woman requires is a product that can be operated instinctively and which focuses on one major function, that of reminding, and does it well, rather than encompassing multiple features, most of which never get used. Acting as her personal assistant, 2do ensures that she accomplishes all the tasks she has set for herself, on time and efficiently.

The project was a great learning experience in designing for a particular group of people with their specific needs and behaviour patterns, as opposed to designing a product for universal use. It enabled me to work on a project from start to finish, including the naming of the final product. The lack of constraints opened up exciting possibilities and was a very empowering experience, while setting my own constraints was an excellent disciplining exercise and taught me responsibility.
